The Lodge at Dunkeld, founded 1734, operates under a Charter granted by the Grand Lodge of Scotland and is one of thirteen Lodges which make up the Province of Perthshire West

What is Freemasonry ?

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Its roots lie in the traditions and ceremonies of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. Some rituals are still celebrated today.
  • Integrity: We say what we mean and we keep our promises.

    Truth, which is represented by the divine, in its multiplicity and diversity as understood by all men

  • Kindness: Although our families come first, we believe in playing a key role in our communities and give time and money to charitable ventures.

    Every Mason is obligated to relieve the suffering of any Master Mason they encounter who is in dire need and if in their power to do so, to the best of their ability, also to act charitably towards society, giving of ourselves economically, physically, and mentally. 

  • Honesty: We pride ourselves on openness, about what being a Freemason means for us.

    While the general consensus among those not in the craft is an idea of secrecy,  our mebership tends to be open and more than willing to discuss the craft.

  • Fairness: We treat everyone as equal – we listen to others, explore any differences and look for common ground.

    One of the foundations of the craft is that all men are equal, while a hierarchy is nesessary, all men in the end are the same.

  • Tolerance: We respect the opinions of others and behave with understanding towards them.

    Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on any far ranging topic but one should strive for understanding, make an effort to reach common ground and promote harmony.

Freemasonry means different things to each individual, making new friends, contributing to society, celebrating tradition, experiencing personal growth, taking up a hobby or having fun.
